Reviews - What do our customers think?
Highly recommended Nov 11, 2006
A Handbook on Holy Spirit Baptism is a very welcome help in teaching believers about the most important promise after conversion to Christ. Afterall the Spirit is needed to reveal to us all the other promises in the New Covenant (1 Kor. 2:18).
Some of the discussion of the book on this page raises the question if we are all using the Bible. Paul commands the Roman believers to submit all members of the body to Christ. James makes it clear that the most powerful physical member is our tongue. If the business world adheres to the principle of "First Time Right" for commercial purposes, how much more God in his dealing with man? After all, if you control the tongue you control the body. No wonder that the reception of the Spirit includes speaking in tongues. Our Lord does not waste time in his goal to santify and empower his servants.
Well, if anyone dear brother doesn't want to speak in tonques, the holy Spirit will not force it on hin and neither should any Spirit-baptized believer. However any such person should take some time for self-refelection and ask why he or she is against it besides so-called Biblical reasons. Could it be fear, unbelief, self-justification, the fear of excommunication or the hesitance that a long-held belief may not be right after all?
A great resource for those seeking the Baptism in the HS Oct 8, 2003
For those who want the serve God with power, boldness and without fear of man, it is of upmost importance to seek and receive the Baptism in the Holy Spirit. The transition from the fearful impotent followers of Christ hiding in the Upper Room (John 20:19)to awe inspiring, government defying charismatic leaders converting thousands to Jesus (Acts 2)is a testament to what is in store for those who are Baptised in the Holy Spirit. Just like salvation, the Baptism in the Holy Spirit is received by asking for it and receiving by faith. Don Basham's book gives practical steps to help those searching for the power to better serve God...and that power comes through the Baptism in the Holy Spirit. We have found this book to be very effective in leading others to this empowering experience...we buy them by the dozen. If you want a solid witnessing tool for this gift from God, use Don Basham's Handbook on the Holy Spirit Baptism.
Don't buy in to liberal theology - DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK! Aug 29, 2002
First of all, Holy Spirit Baptism isn't even scriptural - so how can this book be at all practical? Second, a believer would have to believe in the do-do bird as well to accept the theology presented in this book. Third, what in the heck are you dispelling. The historical accounts in this book are incorrect. The author did not research church history before writig this book. It is very apparent that the author has no understanding of greek and Bible interpreation.
Don't buy this book.
Don't give it to your friends.
If you believe in a personal prayer language, you are praying to a God that is not the God of Jesus Christ.
Wonderfully-written, easy to read resource! Aug 8, 2002
Contrary to that last reviewer's opinion, I think this book is great! I've used it for years, because it is a practical, well-thought-out, and easy to read book. The index is topical and it answers practically every question a believer would have about Holy Spirit Baptism. The book also dispels many misunderstandings and myths related to charisma and Scripture.
I've truly found no other resource as good as this one to give to those who have questions about the Holy Spirit.
Highly recommended! Buy several and give them to your questioning friends! :)
Bibilical incorrect Jun 28, 2002
This book is not Biblically correct. It does not adhere to sound doctrine. Donald Basham's "interpretation" of speaking in tongues is completely off. I don't have anything against those who are Charismatic - but this book is not spiritually sound nor is it spiritually safe in regards to what are spiritual matters. If you are of a sound mind and truely love Jesus Christ - do not buy this book with the intentions of growing closer to Him. It is a good book to read if you want to learn about how twisted and mangled someone can make Paul sound. The particular danger in this book is how the topic is conveyed. There are some elements that adhere to doctrine and is considered edifying to church. However, after conveying what is correct, there is additional information that does not agree with what the Bible says. I would advise you to carefully checkout what is sound, theological doctrine before reading this book.
