Like a box of scrumptious chocolates to be savored one by one  Feb 3, 2007
Readers who can't get enough of Tracey Bateman's hilarious mom-lit will love this final installment in her Claire trilogy. I Love Claire continues the story of quirky romance writer Claire Everett, whose real-life drama inches her closer toward wedded bliss with fiancé Greg. Yet a few obstacles stand in the way of their path to the altar.

First of all, there's a slight snafu with the Hawaiian honeymoon plans. Greg's new schedule as interim church pastor may prevent him from having time off to travel. Then Claire discovers the most gorgeous wedding gown ever created, which fits her like a glove, yet the price tag renders the dress way beyond her reach. To add to her sagging spirits, Claire's writing career is on the skids, and she's been dropped by her long-time agent. She passes her time watching Oprah, Dr. Phil, and other therapeutic TV shows.

Enter Ollie, a 200-pound mastiff needing to be walked. Through a surprise encounter with elderly dog-owner Miss Lou, Claire devises a plan to earn her the extra cash she needs to snag the dress of her dreams. Then along comes Miss Lou's rich and charming single son, Jerry, who can't keep his eyes off Claire. Will he extinguish the passion Claire feels for her perfect Christian fiancé, Greg?

Like Batemen's other novels, the humor and snappy dialogue make I Love Claire a page-turner. In addition to her financial woes and pre-wedding jitters, Claire's four kids keep her living on the edge. Through it all, God's constant presence reminds Claire that He's in control.

Tracey Bateman's novels offer the perfect escape for readers, like a box of scrumptious chocolates to be savored one by one. The only problem with her books is that you laugh out loud so much, you have to keep answering the question, "What's so funny?"

Leave it to Tracey; she's done it again. - Heather Ivester, Christian Book Previews
Author Clair is getting married  Feb 1, 2007
Reviewed by Kelli Glesige for Reader Views (1/07)

Claire Everett is divorced and a single mom to her four great kids; Tommy, Jake, Shawn and Ari. Claire is also a writer, trying desperately to break out of a mold and to find a new sponsor to represent her work. Life is looking brighter for Claire, as she is engaged to be married to Greg Lewis, a former teacher who now attends Bible School. Greg has an [..] daughter named Sadie who will be a member of the new combined family. The happy couple plans to wed the first of June followed by a two week honeymoon to Hawaii.

With four kids, an upcoming wedding, and a writing career that has hit a lull, Claire finds herself short of funds and refusing to ask her fiancé or ex husband for financial help. Claire is determined to find a way to manage her finances until she goes shopping and finds the perfect wedding dress, but the price tag states an unbelievable $5,000. No other dress is acceptable, so Claire sets her sights on earning the needed dollars.

As luck would have it, Claire finds that dog walking makes a nice income, even if the dog is a 200 pound mastiff named Ollie whose elderly owner has broken a hip and is confined to a wheelchair. The dog's owner, Miss Lou, quickly becomes a good friend to Claire, even if Miss Lou's son, Jerry, is someone to be reckoned with. Claire also walks the small but destructive Mitzy, until her owner abandons her pet, leaving Claire to find a home for Mitzy.

Claire's fiancé, Greg, is offered the perfect pastoral job, but it is in a distant town. Unfortunately, taking the job will mean the couple's honeymoon plans will need to be postponed, for Greg's permanent job will begin the day after the planned wedding. Reluctantly, Claire tells Greg to accept the position he wants so badly. While Greg is away with the new job, a new suitor showers Claire with an unending supply of flowers, all meant to get her to change her mind about Greg. Claire finds herself confused and questioning her feelings.

I found "I Love Claire" to be thoroughly enjoyable and with good Christian principles. I loved the character of Claire created by the author. Lighthearted, warm and funny, Claire is a gal with spunk. You will be enthralled with the things she says and the way she handles her problems with dogs, men, and her own kids. Without a doubt, I recommend this book to adult readers who want to laugh and enjoy a wholesome Christian-based romance. Moms with teens will relate to the issues Claire must deal with and the problems her kids find themselves in. Dog lovers will enjoy Claire's abilities with her walking companions.
Here comes the bride...  Jan 30, 2007
Claire is finally about to get married! Greg has asked the questions and the happy couple is planning the event that will start their new life together. Claire has found the perfect gown but alas it is wayyy out of her price range. So in order to get the extra money, she accidentally becomes a dog walker (even though she hates dogs). Since its Claire, of course all sorts of adventures have to happen to her. Her client's irritating son is attracted to her, her daughter is again seriously involved with her college boyfriend, her son is doing drugs, and Greg wants to postpone their honeymoon to take a pastoral job in another church! Will Claire still be able to make it down the aisle?

I thought this was a wonderful end to the Claire series. I felt all the characters had come around full circle. Claire seems to have finally made her peace with Rick and Darcy and while she still sometimes feels irritated with Darcy, they have become good friends.
I also really liked the pastor's wife. She was a good example to Claire that a pastor's wife is just like everyone else and wants her husband to pay attention to her. I am glad that she said that the best type of pastor would put his wife before the church and I'm glad Greg finally realized this about Claire. Jerry was kind of creepy and I would have been extremely mad at him too in the situation with the yacht. I really enjoyed this book, it's a great read, and Claire just makes you laugh all the time with her adventures.

The only thing I didn't agree with was Ari's decision to get married so young and everyone seeming to go along with it. I personally do not think an 18 year old is ready for marriage. There is so much they do not know, Ari does not seem like a person who is ready to tackle all the responsibilities of a grown up. In the beginning of the book, she is still whining about not getting her own way, and then at the end she wants to be a wife and have her own household. I know that there are many young couples that marry and can make it but it just didn't seem realistic that everyone agrees this is the right decision in this situation.

I have grown to love Claire and her family. Let's hope there might be at least one more Claire book in the future. Highly recommended book for mom lit fans.
You'll Love I Love Claire!  Jan 17, 2007
If you liked Leave it to Claire and Claire Knows Best, you're going to love I Love Claire. I started chuckling on page one and snickered all the way through to the end. But this lighthearted look at relationships will have you reexamining your own. There's meat on the bones of this novel--spiritual food for thought. It's just hidden in the package of a rollicking good read.

With characters that grab you by the hand and pull you into their world, I Love Claire will leave you wanting more.

Inspirational read  Dec 28, 2006
I Love Claire is not your grandmother's romance novel. It's not even your mother's romance. I Love Claire is the newest entry in Tracey Bateman's Claire Everett series. Called "mom-lit" or "hen-lit," this is chick-lit for the next generation.

Claire is a single mother of four, a novelist without a publisher, and engaged to Greg, a teacher changing careers and attending seminary. Claire finds the perfect wedding gown and takes on odd jobs, including dogwalking, to pay for it.

When Greg asks her to postpone their honeymoon so he can begin a summer interim pastorate job, Claire questions herself. Giving up her trip to Hawaii is the right thing to do, isn't it? It's for God, after all. Her feelings are further confused when Jerry, the son of a dog-walking client, begins to pursue Claire and won't take no for an answer. But is Claire really telling him to stop?

As the wedding date approaches, Jerry continues to let Claire know he's available for Hawaiian vacations and Greg asks another sacrifice of Claire and her kids. Will Greg and Claire be able to meld two very different families? Will Jerry ever back off? Will the dress be paid for in time?

Claire's voice is sassy and wry and Bateman hits the right combination of humor and honesty. She does a good job making each of the characters individuals. The only exception is Greg's daughter, Sadie. We're told she's spoiled and willful although we aren't shown that; she comes across as more forlorn and needy.

I Love Claire is the concluding book of a trilogy so perhaps Sadie's problems played a bigger part in the first two installments.

Fans of romance, chick-lit, or madcap humor will find much to love about Claire and her family.

Armchair Interviews says: I Love Claire is a fun, quick inspirational read but with real spiritual take-away.
